Update from our agent in Western Ukraine - December 25, 2014:
"The situation in my country is bad. We hoped that when new government
comes our life will change for better. But it's much worse now after the
elections. The authority switches off the electricity in every town and
village, we may sit in the dark for hours. They say it's not going to be better
during the next months .They are going to switch the light off in the
institutions and in the streets when the weather gets colder.The power stations
haven't enough coal to produce the energy.The war in the east destroyed all the
coal pits. Besides, the government adopted new laws concerning our salaries,
they want to make it much smaller than it is now, and the payments for gas and
energy will grow 3-5 times more. So, we don't know how we are going to survive.
They say the country is in critical situation now, the prices grow rapidly, the
exchange rate for the dollar was 23 hryvnias last week.Our life became 3 times
poorer than it was last year."
